HOLLY BEACH COASTAL WORK TO BE DISCUSSED
The benefits of a proposed breakwaters and sand management plan for marshes in Cameron Parish will be discussed at a public meeting held by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Coastal Restoration division on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at 5 p.m. at the Police Jury Building, 110 Smith Circle.
DNR COASTAL OFFICIALS TO HOST SYMPOSIUM ON PROTECTING COASTAL WATERS
Coastal zone parish officials will join state coastal management officials for a two-day symposium, Local Coastal Programs 2000: Protecting Coastal Waters, to be held at the Holiday Inn Holidome in Lafayette on April 5th and 6th.

The New Orleans District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources today held an historic signing ceremony in Baton Rouge to launch a major coastal wetlands study.

C.F. BEAN INC. LANDS BID FOR MISSISSIPPI DELTA PROJECT
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Restoration Center, has awarded a $114,000 contract to C.F. Bean, Inc. of Belle Chasse, La., to complete a wetlands restoration project that will help nourish the extensive delta wetlands in Plaquemines Parish.
DNR BEGINS LITTLE VERMILION BAY PROJECT TO PROTECT AND CREATE VALUABLE MARSHLAND
LITTLE VERMILION BAY -- At a site visit today, officials with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announced work has begun on the Little Vermilion Bay Sediment Trapping Project that encompasses an area of 964 acres of marsh and open water.
ENGINEERING WORK BEGINS ON THREE COASTAL PROJECTS
Coastal managers at the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have begun engineering design and construction plans on three coastal restoration projects. The projects located in Terrebonne, Vermilion, Iberia, and Cameron parishes feature water management techniques and altered hydrology to increase marshland, fish, and wildlife productivity.
RESEARCHERS GO DIGGING IN THE MARSH FOR SPECIAL PLANTS
Researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Wetlands Research Center (NWRC) in Lafayette will travel to the Salvador Wildlife Management Area in St. Charles Parish to collect plants indigenous to Louisiana marshlands for a study sponsored by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
E. TIMBALIER BARRIER ISLAND TO GROW UNDER $8.88 MILLION PROJECT
A New Orleans marine dredging firm will soon create 240 acres of new wetlands on Louisiana's East Timbalier Island in order to extend the life of this deteriorating barrier island and continue its protection of Timbalier Bay and area wildlife, the Commerce Department's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced today.
Unprecedented Consensus: COAST 2050 PLAN APPROVED BY STATE WETLANDS AUTHORITY, CWPPRA TASK FORCE, 20 COASTAL PARISHES
BATON ROUGE – In an unprecedented joint meeting this week of the State Wetlands Authority and the CWPPRA (Coastal Wetlands Protection, Preservation and Restoration Act, or Breaux Act) Task Force, the Coast 2050 Plan strategies and habitat objectives were approved. The Coast 2050 strategies and the model of parish involvement used in the planning process have been unanimously approved by all 20 coastal Louisiana parishes.
