America’s WETLAND Summit in Lake Charles will focus on Culture
Civic leaders will gather for a summit to focus on the issue of coastal land loss and the effect it has on Louisiana communities, culture, music, art, and its people. The summit is being sponsored primarily by the Governor’s Office of Coastal Activities.
Senator Breaux, officials present coastal projects on August 15
The Breaux Act Task Force and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources will dedicate several Breaux Act projects at a ceremony to be held at Holly Beach in Cameron Parish on Friday, August 15th. U. S. Senator John Breaux will preside over the event and the public is invited to attend.
Good stewards awarded for making buildings better and saving money
The long, hot, humid days of summer did not stop officials of six school boards and one police jury from traveling to the capital city for recognition as “good stewards” in the state’s new Energy Fund program. The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) held “Stewardship Awards” ceremony to honor and call attention to the participants. "These school systems are now on their way to saving hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in energy operating costs," said Department of Natural Resources Secretary Jack Caldwell.
State Conservation Office to Host Pipeline Seminar in New Orleans
The state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Louisiana Gas Association (LGA) will host a two-day seminar for hazardous liquids operators and contractors at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans on August 13th and 14th.

A third series of public meetings, sponsored by state and federal managers of the Louisiana Coastal Area (LCA) formerly known as the Louisiana Comprehensive Coastwide Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study, will be held Aug. 4 -7. Round Two in Fight to Remove Hydrilla in Basin Starts Soon
Last year almost to the date a team of scientists, chemists, and state officials donned their boots, jumped into airboats and headed to Henderson to do battle. Thus, round one began in the fight to remove the noxious aquatic weed, hydrilla, from Henderson Lake in the Atchafalaya Basin.
E&P Waste Disposal Rules in State Expanded
Both commercial and non-commercial waste disposal operations in Louisiana now have the option of using salt dome caverns. According to the state Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Conservation, the regulations for the disposal of exploration and production (E&P) waste into solution-mined salt dome caverns became effective last month.
