CASH IN HAND FOR DNR EMPLOYEES LEADING SAFETY PROGRAM

Volunteering for on-the-job safety duties has paid off for Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) employee Manuel Lam, a senior energy analyst for the Technology Assessment Division. Lam’s willingness to take on the added duties as assistant floor warden for the department’s Safety Program paid cash dividends this week. He and 56 other dedicated DNR employees were honored and presented checks for their role in the department’s safety initiatives.

Redlands, California—Selected from more than 200,000 organizations worldwide, the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources is being honored for its work in geographic information system (GIS) technology. The Special Achievement in GIS award is presented by ESRI, the world leader in GIS software, mapping components, and spatial database management tools. The awards were presented at a ceremony at the nineteenth Annual ESRI International User Conference, the largest gathering of GIS professionals in the world.

DNR'S CONSERVATION COMMISSIONER VISITS TURKMENISTAN

The state's Conservation Commissioner Philip Asprodites and several other oil and gas experts visited the Caspian Sea region in July to participate in talks focused on U.S. oil and gas regulatory programs. The trip coordinated by the United States Energy Association, provided Caspian oil and gas leaders with an information exchange and setup an environmental regulatory partnership with Turkmenistan, Asprodites said today.

Joel Kohler Named To National Pipeline Safety Board

Joel Kohler, Assistant Director Pipeline Division of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, has been elected Vice Chairman of the National Association of Pipeline Safety Representatives (NAPSR). In two years, with Kohler accepting the board's top leadership position, Louisiana is expected to host the organization's 2001 national conference.
