DOE grant with state energy office to enhance rebuilding efforts
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Technology Assessment Division has been awarded a $100,000 grant by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design practices into Louisiana’s rebuilding efforts. National experts with many years of experience will be available to share building design concepts at scheduled forums to be held in the hurricane affected regions of the state.

DNR Geologist Named Vice President of National Group

Dr. Madhurendu B. Kumar, a geologist with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Office of Conservation, has been named vice president of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). He was also awarded the Presidential Certificate of Merit for his leadership as the Chairman of the Practicality Committee during AIGP’s 2005 annual meeting recently held in Lexington, KY.
DNR Welcomes Korean Energy Company to State
The Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) Office of Conservation has issued two drilling permits in Iberia parish for exploration and production to SK E&P Corp., headquartered in Seoul, Korea. DNR Secretary Scott Angelle said this particular drilling marks a page in oil and gas history for Louisiana, since it is the company’s first operating venture in the United States. SK Corp. specializes in energy and chemicals and is active in 19 countries.

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco announced in a press conference Tuesday the State of Louisiana has reached a settlement in its suit to stop the Minerals Management Service (MMS) from conducting any further oil and gas lease sales in the Western or Central Gulf of Mexico until it has prepared a new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) covering the next sale in these areas.
Government office coordinates pipeline safety in many ways
“There is approximately 45,000 miles of pipeline in Louisiana,” according to James Mergist, who heads the state Department of Natural Resources’ Pipeline/Safety Division. This division is aligned with the agency’s Office of Conservation and is mainly responsible for programs that regulate intrastate natural gas use, hazardous liquid pipelines and conservation. It also acts as a clearinghouse to provide information to users of natural gas in the state.
