The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a statewide Clean Cities Conference on January 24-26, 2007 in New Orleans at the Astor Crowne Plaza Hotel. Energy officials host Clean Cities conference in Baton Rouge (News)
The Clean Cities Statewide Conference met in late January in Baton Rouge to discuss the use of alternative-fuels for public transportation vehicles in the state. Over 60 representatives including the U.S. Department of Energy/Clean Cities program officials, transportation industry officials and members of the Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Shreveport Clean Cities program met to share perspectives on the benefits of using alternative-fuels and hybrid vehicles.

The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) and the state Department of Natural Resource's (DNR) Energy office will participant in an interactive video conference detailing President Clinton initiatives on the use of solar and energy efficient products throughout the country. The video conference is entitled, Buildings for the 21st Century: The President's Million Solar Roofs Initiative and will be held on Wednesday, October 29 from 1:00-2:30 pm at LABI's Board Room, 3113 Valley Creek Drive.

DNR GEOLOGIST RECEIVES PRESIDENTIAL AWARD (News)
The American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG ) has honored Dr. Madhurendu B. Kumar with its Presidential Certificate of Merit for his leadership as General Chairman of the 1998 AIPG National Conference held in October in Baton Rouge. The award also recognized his latest publication, Issues and Answers on Petroleum in the Environment, which was presented at AIPG's 35th annual conference at the Baton Rouge Hilton.

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco announced in a press conference Tuesday the State of Louisiana has reached a settlement in its suit to stop the Minerals Management Service (MMS) from conducting any further oil and gas lease sales in the Western or Central Gulf of Mexico until it has prepared a new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) covering the next sale in these areas.
