The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) implemented the Strategic Online Natural Resources Information System (SONRIS) in 1999 to provide petroleum exploration/ production and coastal restoration/management data to its staff, industry and the public via the Internet. SONRIS consists of Oracle databases, electronic document image access, and custom online interactive map production via a geographic information system (GIS).

The DNR Office of Conservation and Office of Mineral Resources, along with the La. Department of Economic Development held a briefing meeting to discuss the oil and gas industry with dignitaries from the countries of Australia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Panama, Philippines, and Trinidad and Tobago. The visitors were part of the International Leadership Program for U.S. Trade Policy under the U.S. Department of State.

On August 26, Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle will give testimony to the members of the United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works during a field hearing to examine coastal erosion causes, effects and solutions in Louisiana.

Public hearings on both of the state’s coastal protection and restoration plans will be held in Houma, Lake Charles, New Orleans and Abbeville. (Coastal Impact Assistance Plan and Coastal Protection and Restoration Master Plan)

Baton Rouge, LA – Federal, state and local officials gathered at the State Capitol today to call for unity in seeking a 50 percent share of offshore oil and gas revenues to finally provide a continuous revenue stream for coastal protection for Louisiana.

The State will unveil national and statewide campaign plans to raise awareness of its dramatic coastal land loss and the value of coastal Louisiana to the rest of the nation and the world, focusing on its role in the nation's energy production and economic security, as well as its world ecological significance.
