When was the Office of Conservation created?

The Louisiana Commission for the Conservation of Natural Resources was created in 1908. The Commission's purpose was to address general problems of Conservation in the state. The Louisiana Department of Conservation was created in 1916 and came under the control of a single officer entitled the Commissioner of Conservation. During the reorganization of Louisiana State Government in 1976, the Department of Energy and Natural Resources (DNR) was established. For more information, visit the Conservation History Page.

Where are Conservation hearings held in Baton Rouge?

Conservation is housed in the LaSalle Building in downtown Baton Rouge. The official address is 617 North Third Street. The hearing room is located on the First Floor. For more information and detailed directions link to the DENR Visitor Center.

Can I obtain a copy of recent drilling permits issued by Conservation?

Yes. The Office of Conservation issues its weekly Scout Report, one for each of the three districts in Lafayette, Monroe and Shreveport. Reports are posted each Thursday. Link to Conservation's SONRIS page to obtain your copy.
